October is here and, to celebrate what's surely a lot of headbangers' favorite time of the year, I'm delving into the stygian depths of Lovecraftian heavy metal. Horror/sci-fi writer Howard Phillips Lovecraft has been a huge influence on metal musicians from the very beginning of the genre's history, and I'm dredging up some of the best examples of contemporary metal bands that mine Lovecraft's work for inspiration. Dim the lights, light some candles, and enjoy!
